Though there are numerous great places to eat a hearty midday meal on Isla Mujeres, Barlito in particular stand out for us. It has a glowing reputation as the prime spot for freshly home-baked bread, super friendly staff and beautiful views.
We went for lunch, although they are also open for breakfast and now dinner. They offered us impressive sounding pizzas and salads, but the ultimate treat we’d heard about and that we had to try were the paninis, complete with colourful fruit pots on the side. The portions are huge, one serving is enough to feed two, or get your left overs ‘para llevar’ – to go!
Very popular when it was based in El Centro, its new location at Marina Paradiso on the western coast is a little quieter. However, the setting is stunning – the main restaurant is a set back garden terrace, but you can also eat by pool or at the bar overlooking the harbour.
